The Taming of Smeagol
As the title of the track would suggest,
this song is about Smeagol. More specifically, it is about Sam
and Frodo wrestling Smeagol as he attempts to take back his
Precious.
The song starts out with a reference back to
the Shire which gives a sense of homesickness to the song.
Quickly, it turns dark as the viewer learns that Smeagol (or
Gollum) is on their trail and is seeking the Ring.
The song turns very fast paced once the
fight between Smeagol and Frodo and Sam begins. It gives a
fantastic sense of nervousness in the viewer - the goal of all
good music during a tense scene. Even after reading the books
and knowing the ending, the viewer can't help but feel anxious
during the fight while this song is playing.
