The Shadow of the Past

This song takes on a darker tone at the beginning as we begin to see the Ring's power over its caretaker. We begin to learn what the Ring can do, and its significance in the story. The dark tone of this track is the most overpowering part. It shows how not everything is good and green in Middle Earth. We also know that there is much darkness in the world surrounding the Shire. Also, we are introduced to the Black Riders, The Nazgul, the Ringwraiths. They were the nine men given rings of power but were deceived and and now slaves to Sauron's will. We see them being sent out from Mordor. This terror they create is formidable and none can stand against them. Not only are they sent out, but we know they are tracking Frodo, which puts him in dangerous peril. This track creates a powerful aura about the Black Riders which will last throughout the 3 movies.
