The Passage of the Marshes

This song is as close as the entire score gets to being a scary track. The viewer is alerted to this nasty bog, and then is introduced to the Marshes as being the Dead Marshes. The intimidating view of the dead faces in the water is a sight to behold.

It becomes even more frightening when Frodo falls in the water. Time seems to stop as he slowly sinks to the bottom. Finally, Smeagol pulls him from the water with a stiff warning to not follow the lights. Frodo appears quite grateful to Smeagol after this episode, and rightfully so. The dark tone of this track is quite different from other songs on this CD. It manages to keep a dark tone very quiet. Most of Shore's dark music is very loud and overwelming.
