The End of All Things

This is the final struggle. Frodo and Sam are inching their way up Mount Doom, barely able to carry on, when Smeagol jumps out of nowhere and attacks them. About the only thing that could ignite Frodo is an attack on the Ring. He quickly becomes reenergized because of this attack and drives Smeagol off. While Sam and Smeagol fight, Frodo runs to the end of the bridge into Mount Doom. Sam calls for him to destroy it, but in the final instant, Frodo refuses, claiming it as his own Precious.

However, Smeagol has crept up behind him, and he leaps onto Frodo once again. Frodo quickly puts on the Ring and disappears, but Smeagol keeps hold of him. In the end, Smeagol cuts off Frodo's finger with the Ring and claims it as his own. But in all his revelling, he slips off the edge of the cliff and plummets into the fires of Mount Doom. The Ring is destroyed, and the Third Age of Middle Earth comes to a close.

The song highlights the final struggle in a convincing way. The viewer is alerted to the tenseness of the situation, and at every point the music keeps the viewer spellbound.
