The Council of Elrond
The Council of Elrond is a very significant
event in the Lord of the Rings story. It is where the people
of Middle-Earth, Elves, Men, and Dwarves (and Hobbits!) meet
to decide the fate of the One Ring.
Again, the music of this track accurately
portrays the events occurring in the film. It is a serious
situation and the music reflects that. There is much tension
at the Council and many disputes over where the Ring should
go. Gimli gets upset over the thought of the Ring going to an
Elf. Gimli even attempts to destroy it with his axe even
though that is not possible.
Boromir attempts to get the ring for Gondor,
and Gandalf is forced to hold him back - by uttering in the
tongue of Mordor no less. It is also publicly displayed here
that Aragorn is the heir to the throne of Gondor. Legolas uses
this point as an attack on Boromir for disrespecting Aragorn.
In the end, Frodo steps forward to take the
Ring to Mordor. Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf,
Merry, Pippin, and Sam are to be his companions.
The singing by Enya is also fantastic. Enya
captures the spirit of the Lord of the Rings with her
incredible voice.
It is also worth mentioning that the Council
of Elrond has a significant amount of footage added in the
special extended version of the movie. Watching the extended
version really adds a lot to this scene and gives a better
background. The scene in the normal version feels quite brief.
The song ends on a light note, with the
fellowship being displayed.
