Minas Tirith
The great white city of the West! This great
city has been alluded to throughout the filmds. In Fellowship
of the Ring, Boromir speaks to Aragorn about it, asking him if
he has seen the White City, and commenting on the Tower of
Ecthelion glimmering like a spike of pearl. Boromir certainly
describes the city well and the viewer is forced to wait until
the third movie to get a good look at it. (It is shown briefly
in FotR when Gandalf visits it to do some research on the Ring
- but no grand view is shown.)
In Return of the King, we see the White City
in all of its glory as Gandalf approchaes it and Pippin with
him, to keep him safe because he has looked into the
captured Seeing Stone of Numenor.
Minas Tirith has 7 layers to it, you must
circle the city 7 times to reach the top post. Shore's music
for this city is absolutely stunning. It gives the city an
extremely powerful aura as something grand and old. The use of
all the instruments allows Shore to give Minas Tirith a
spectacular opening, and this city will serve as the major
place of battle for the entire movie, and specifically for the
battle of the Fields of the Pelennor.
