Hope Fails
This song shows the defeat of the White
City. Enemies are pouring into the city, completely ravaging
it, and none can stand before them. The walls are being
knocked down and Denethor's reign has failed. Faramir is about
to die by his father's hand, and King Theoden is mortally
wounded. All in all, things are not going well.
This song emphasizes the failure of Men, and
shows them lost and leaderless. Rohan's King is dying, and
Denethor, Steward of Gondor, is insane and about to commit
suicide.
Fortunately, Aragorn arrives with Legolas
and Gimli and most importantly, with the Undead spirits who
owe an oath to the line of Isildur. With the help of them, the
people of Gondor and Rohan and able to drive the Orcs back to
their lands.
